Rain Saturated Ground

The wettest winter on record has left fields saturated leaving water standing on the surface even where  there are no flooding problems.Arable fields where the ground has been cultivated are affected more than traditional grass sward. Let's hope for some sunny dry weather to get springtime underway.

Ancient Oaks

Oak trees survive for hundreds of years but if all their branches remained in place then the tree would probably topple over due to the excess weight. This Oak has adapted by shedding branches thus enabling the tree to survive.
The useful life of Berkeley nuclear power station, which is just visible under the branches, is already over in a much shorter time, although its radioactive legacy continues.

Snowdrops

Snowdrops are a welcome sight everywhere at the moment even though raindrops hang from most of them!

Sunshine between the rain.

This morning there is a bit of a respite, the sun is out and there is a chilly wind and its drying up. Beautiful views across the Severn valley and the Malvern Hills are visible. We sympathise with all those folks affected by the terrible storms and flooding around the country. Let's hope the Jet Stream moves over sometime soon.

Long tailed tits

Feeding birds gives them a helping hand through the winter and groups of long tailed tits are regular visitors to our feeders. These delightful little birds tend to stay in family groups right through to the next breeding season.
