A Cotswold Year - Charting the seasons in the South Cotswolds

Monday 14 March 2011

As the days lengthen and the sun strengthens adders can be seen coming out of hibernation to bask in the sunshine and increase their body temperature.
The adder hibernates from October to February. It is our only venomous snake but rarely attacks humans if left alone.

  1. Did you take this picture? I don't think I've ever actually seen an adder up close.

  2. Yes I took the photo on Sunday. They do not move away so quickly at the moment as they need to increase their body temperature and it is still quite cool hence they are easier to spot.
All the photos on the blog are taken by me or Sue.
